One of the loveliest weddings ever was that of Sophie and James. After a marriage ceremony at St Thomas Church in Hockley Heath they chose the fabulous venue of Shustoke Farm Barns in Warwickshire for their reception on a perfect May day.

Sophie and James are a wonderful couple and the day was amazing from start to finish. I am especially lucky to have known the bride from her being a few days old, so I have witnessed her mature into a beautiful, genuine and very capable young woman.

The wedding theme was very natural and personal to Sophie and James, with a colour scheme based around ‘wild flowers’ and a general rustic feel with unique touches created by James. These included an a stunning table plan, favours display and ring toss game to name a few.

Bridal preparation was well underway when I arrived at the family home, situated conveniently next door to the church. This meant that grandparents could easily pop in and even James to print off his speech! It was extra special for Sophie to walk down the garden path across to the church and great for me to move between there and the house.

Hayley, a friend of the couple was responsible for creating the beautiful collection of flowers. The centre pieces at the reception were stunning and I especially loved the flower garlands that were created for the bridesmaids. Each of the bridesmaids wore a different coloured lace dress that matched a colour from Sophie’s bouquet.

Sophie looked incredible in her dress. It had hints of vintage and she had chosen to have it made for her by Emma Beaumont, a wedding dress designer from Knutsford in Lancashire. She looked perfect.

The wedding had so many unique touches, including Sophie asking her two grandmothers to be her flower girls and lead the wedding party into church. After a moving ceremony and the opportunity for photographs, a  double decker bus drove the guests to the reception venue. The bottles of fizz were passed around and it proved quite a challenge to juggle cameras and narrow stairs as we wizzed round the country lanes!

Shustoke Barn looked stunning with extra special touches that included bottles of sloe gin, created by Margaret, the bride’s mother and a beautiful cake, decorated with real flowers made by Anne, the groom’s mother. The guest book was a stack of Jenga blocks. The wedding breakfast was a wonderful informal BBQ, with a guest chosen from each table to wear a chef’s hat. Great fun!

The whole wedding was incredible and I was lucky to be an invited guest as well as being responsible of photographing the occasion. My favourite part of the day was after the meal when I was able to take informal shots of Sophie and James in the field alongside the barns.
